Pledge to Idaho’s Children

Idaho PTA is working with Idaho Voices for Children (IVC) to present the Pledge to Idaho’s Children to the citizens of this state.

Please read this Pledge to Idaho’s Children and then Say Yes! to Idaho’s Children by signing your name as a show of support to the future of Idaho.  We need your voice to speak up for our children!

You can sign on-line at www.pledgetoidahoschildren.org.  Or you can visit IVC’s web site at www.idahovoices.org and print a copy of the Pledge and mail it to their office at 314 S. 9th Street, Suite 100, Boise, Idaho 83702.

We want to insure that Idaho’s children are a top priority in making the very difficult decisions that lie ahead for our leaders.
Why do we need the Pledge?  Because of these unacceptable facts -- in Idaho:

  • a child is abused or neglected every 5 hours
  • a child dies before his or her first birthday every 2 days
  • a child or teen is killed by gunfire every 26 days
  • Idaho ranks 8th highest among states in its infant mortality rate
  • Idaho ranks last among states for child care health and safety standards
  • Of 100 9th graders, only 14 will get a 4 year college degree

What can the Pledge do?

  • Over the years there has been much discussion in Idaho on the role of government when it comes to children. Idaho’s Pledge to All Our Children offers an opportunity to voice a shared vision about the wellbeing of our children.
  • We believe that parents and guardians have primary responsibility for the care, education, and health of their children. But not all families have equal access to resources that provide for the optimal rearing of children.
  • Idaho’s Pledge to all of our Children outlines the commonly held beliefs and gives voice to the commitment to ensure policies are in place that will support these beliefs.
All Idahoans want children to be healthy, well educated, safe and free from abuse. In order for all children to realize this kind of ideal childhood we as adults must work together for the good of the children.

What is in the Pledge?

The Pledge contains 9 statements of belief. Central to each belief is an assumption of the critical role of parents/guardians to serve either as the provider of or as the agent to obtain and coordinate educational, health, and other services as needed for the child.

To ensure the realization of the 9 statements of belief, signers are asked to commit to advocating several implementation policies. Underlying these policies is an understanding that coordination of efforts is critical among all who advocate and provide services for
