SETTING UP YOUR PTA FOR SUCCESS
Simple step-by-step path to guide you on your leadership journey.
Idaho PTA Standards of Affiliation (SOA) are your roadmap to nonprofit protection, statewide support, and program access. Follow these five foundational steps to stay organized, protected, and positioned for impact.
Local Unit Core Leadership
#1
At the center of every local unit is a committed CORE Leadership Team—a President, Vice President, Secretary, Treasurer, and at least one additional member—working together to serve children and strengthen school communities. Strong boards don’t restart each year — they transition with intention.
Idaho PTA CORE membership keeps your PTA in good standing and unlocks training, programs, and statewide support.
Our Idaho PTA Givebacks platform simplifies nonprofit compliance by tracking board submissions, standing rules, membership dues, training participation, and required nonprofit reporting in one place—helping local leaders stay organized, confident, and in good standing.
Stepping into PTA leadership can feel overwhelming, but you are not alone. Idaho PTA is here to support you every step of the way. Our Standards of Affiliation protect your unit, preserve your nonprofit status, and strengthen governance so you can focus on serving students and families.

Volunteer Service Hours
#2
Submit by September 15
Volunteer Service Hours are a powerful reflection of the impact your PTA makes in your school and community. As a nonprofit organization, the IRS requires reporting of volunteer participation and service hours, and as the umbrella organization for local units, Idaho PTA collects this information to ensure 501(c)(3) compliance.
Beyond compliance, these hours tell the story of your unit’s dedication—whether through programs like Reflections, STEM nights, and family events; legislative advocacy and classroom support; or fundraising efforts that strengthen your school community.
Every hour represents time, talent, and heart given for Idaho’s children. Reporting your volunteer service hours helps Idaho PTA demonstrate statewide impact, advocate for resources, and celebrate the incredible difference PTA volunteers make every year.

Exclusive Insurance Rates
Insurance protects your volunteers, events, and officers.
As a recognized Idaho PTA unit, your local unit qualifies for exclusive discounted insurance rates through AIM Insurance—one of the benefits of PTA membership. This coverage protects your events, board, and volunteers while keeping costs manageable.
To remain in good standing, pay your annual premium directly to AIM and retain proof of insurance in your records. Once payment is complete, submit your insurance confirmation in the Idaho PTA Givebacks Dashboard.

Each local PTA unit needs to file an IRS Form 990 (or 990-N e-Postcard) every year to keep your nonprofit status active. The good news? For most units, this is quick and simple.
Your Fiscal Year Form deadline is November 15. You can file online through the IRS e-Postcard system or by mail.

Local Unit Annual Budget
Submit by November 30
Each local PTA unit should review and approve its annual budget no later than November 30. A board-approved budget ensures responsible financial planning, transparency, and alignment with your unit’s goals for the year.
Once approved, retain a copy of the signed budget in your local unit files for your records.
Strong budgets support strong programs — and strong PTA impact.
